makes last appearance before Christmas

ROSEVILLE, Calif., December 2, 2009—Pop-up artist David A. Carter will make his final book-signing appearance at the Blue Line Gallery on December 19.  His reputation as one of the world’s foremost pop-up book artists has been further validated this fall by another New York Times book award and a guest appearance on the Martha Stewart Show.

Congratulations are in order for Carter, whose White Noise—the fifth book in his Red Dot Series—was selected as one of the ten New York Times Best Children’s Illustrated Books for 2009.  This newest book is the fourth award winner in this series, which boasts 50 unique images featured in a mind-tickling modern art exhibit, “The Art of the Pop-Up Book,” at the Blue Line Gallery through January 9.

Carter can be seen crafting paper pop-up trees as guest on the Martha Stewart Show on December 4 (11:00 a.m., KCRA Sacramento) and inspiring paper pop-up activities at the Blue Line Gallery on December 19, 2-4pm. This will be the author’s final book-signing appearance at the gallery during his exhibit.  The Red Dot Series books and pop-up greeting cards are available for purchase in the Blue Line Gift Gallery.

“The Art of the Pop-Up Book: The Red Dot Series by David A. Carter,” featuring 50 of the artist’s free-form kinetic paper sculptures, opened at the Blue Line Gallery on September 19.  Paper pop-up images from the five books have delighted visitors with mind-tickling displays of color and form, movement and sound, larger than life pop-up’s, even the challenge of a scavenger hunt.  Since an integral part of experiencing Carter’s art form is tactile, visitors have been invited to touch elements of the exhibit as well and participate in hands-on art activities on Saturday afternoons, 1-4pm.

Co-chairs of the event Gene Marcucci Bell and Julie Fielder invite area businesses and individuals to become sponsors.  “Business and individual donors benefit from their contributions to this major fundraiser by knowing that they are supporting Roseville’s future” said Gene Bell.  Julie Fielder added, “Roseville Arts and the state-of-the-art Blue Line Gallery enrich Roseville’s businesses and cultural community.  Proceeds will help support adult artists as well as the Blue Line’s children’s gallery, featuring dedicated space for programs, exhibits and workshops for children.”

Executive Director, Barbara Dolder stated, “The Annual Art in the Garden Tour represents Roseville Arts’ major fundraiser for the year.  Funds from the tour help to ensure Roseville’s future as an important and favorite destination point for tourists and art lovers. Supported by donations, most activities offered at the Blue Line Gallery are free to participants including fun family activities held in the gallery every Saturday afternoon, school field trips, and special family-oriented events.  The tour is a great way to enjoy a fantastic day while supporting the arts and culture in our community.”
