Featured Exhibit at the Blue Line Gallery



ROSEVILLE, Calif., September 30, 2009— “Dia de los Muertos” will open at the Blue Line Gallery’s WestPark Gallery during 3rd Saturday Art Walk on October 17.

The exhibit showcases artists’ responses to the popular Latin holiday—from playful to mournful, creepy to memorialized —in a variety of media, including painting, photography, ceramics and stained glass. Artists Jo Ann Blum, Marie Dixon, Suzanne Goodwin, Juice Lee, Miriam Morris and Cassandra Reeves were juried into this member exhibit by a panel of their peers.

A public reception with live music, refreshments and demonstrations by the featured artists will celebrate the exhibit’s opening on October 17, 6:30-9pm, at the Blue Line Gallery. All artwork is available for purchase, with a portion of funds supporting the programs and services of the non-profit Roseville Arts.

"Dream Big" Community Mural

Artist Shane Grammer and representatives from the North Roseville R.E.C. Center and Roseville Arts Blue Line Gallery met with interested teens from the NRREC after school on Monday, September 21, to learn more about the artist’s work and his plan for their participation in the mural project. Participating youth, Shane Grammer and volunteers worked on the mural September 22, from 3:00 until 8:00 pm.

POP IN FOR THE POP-UP WORKSHOP
AT THE BLUE LINE GALLERY
Learn from the master—David A. Carter!

ROSEVILLE, Calif., September 16, 2009 Artist and pop-up engineer David A. Carter will introduce basic pop-up designs and engineering tricks to help participants explore their own creative ideas in this hands-on workshop, designed for adults—teachers, parents, anyone 18 or older. In his career of 35 years, Carter has published more than 80 pop-up books. His exploration of ideas in recent years lead to the publication of The Red Dot Series, five pop-up books filled with colorful, non-representative, spontaneous Modern Art forms.  Pop-up sculpture from these books, including larger models, will be featured in “The Art of the Pop-Up Book” opening September 19 during the 3rd Saturday Art Walk at the Blue Line Gallery—Carter will be on hand during the opening to sign books 3-4pm & 6-7pm.  More about David Carter at www.popupbooks.com/.

Teens at Local Center “Dream Big”
Urban Artist Shane Grammer Leads Local Teens in Mural Project

ROSEVILLE, Calif., September 14, 2009—This month youth at the North Roseville R.E.C .Center (NRREC) will have the opportunity to join nationally-known urban  artist, Shane Grammer, in a mural project to enhance the Center’s High Street campus.

“DREAM BIG” is the graffiti tag selected for the giant mural, which will scan 20 feet across the center’s eight-foot-tall perimeter fence.  The center’s acronym NRREC will also be spelled out around the mural edge to proudly reinforce its focus on developing a positive future for neighborhood youth through Recreation, Education and Creativity.   Artist Grammer and representatives from the North Roseville R.E.C. Center and Roseville Arts Blue Line Gallery will meet with interested teens from the NRREC after school on Monday, September 21, to learn more about the artist’s work and his plan for their participation in the mural project. Participating youth will join Grammer and volunteers on September 22, from 3:00 until 8:00 pm, to complete the project.


Funding and in-kind donations for the mural project have been graciously provided by Shane Grammer, KW Cares from Keller Williams Realty, Roseville ARCONA, and Roseville Arts.

BOUT SHANE GRAMMER
Artist Shane Grammer has turned his fascination with edgy urban art and design into a successful and legitimate art career.  For the past decade, he has specialized in the creation of unique, highly stylized murals and three-dimensional art pieces. His company, SG Studios, employs four full-time and regularly brings in additional part-time painters and installers to design and construct themed environments and retail art installations. SG Studios creates everything from realistic city settings that are heavily influenced by urban and industrial design to whimsical forests that are inspired by animation. Grammer’s work with SG Studios has attracted the attention of commercial businesses, malls, churches, restaurants and theme parks throughout the US.  His art has been featured at the Blue Line Gallery in Roseville; Sarah Jane & Co., The Vox, Brick House and The Artisan Gallery in Sacramento; and 1AM Gallery in San Francisco. R.E.C. CENTER
North Roseville R.E.C. opens its doors weekdays during the school year and summers to provide a healthy, stable environment for disadvantaged, at-risk youth in the community.  Staff and volunteers facilitate programs that encourage positive experiences through a variety of opportunities that may not otherwise be available to this population.  Free services include healthy meals, homework assistance and participation in a variety of healthy activities such as sports, arts and crafts, computer and cooking classes, and special field trips. ROSEVILLE
ARTS PREMIERE EVENT, LOTTERY FOR THE ARTS A SUCCESS!

ROSEVILLE, Calif., September 14, 2009—The Roseville Arts Board of Directors announced that its first ever “Lottery for the Arts” event held on Friday, September 12, 2009 raised over $17,000 to benefit its children’s and families’ arts programs taking place in the Blue Line Gallery in support of its mission: “creating a vibrant community for the arts.” 
 
The evening was attended by enthusiastic patrons who had a wonderful time enjoying great food, wine, music, raffle prizes, live auctions, and the lottery itself.  In an email to Roseville Arts, Valerie & John Bowman stated, “The art lottery evening was the most fun we have had in ages! The event was so well organized. The food was good, the gallery looked great, the auctioneer, Kevin O’Callaghan was terrific and the energy was high and festive. Besides all that, we got one of our top five choices.  We’re already looking forward to next year’s Lottery for the Arts!”
 
 Executive Director, Barbara Dolder stated, “This event was made possible through the generosity of artists, sponsors , and a dedicated Board of Directors who contributed to making the art lottery such a smashing success.  In these difficult economic times, we are indeed fortunate to have a supportive community that understands the vital need to keep the arts alive, not only for today, but for generations to come. “

This Saturday - Art of the Pop-Up!

We are busy-bees here are the Blue Line. The Lottery for the Arts exhibit and event ended last Friday night (more on that later) and we are already gearing up for the next exciting exhibit, The Art of the Pop-up Book: The Red Dot Series by David A Carter.

Lottery for the Arts Exhibition Opened at the Blue Line Gallery

ROSEVILLE, Calif., September 2, 2009 Roseville Arts announced that 104 pieces of art valued at nearly $40,000 have been received from contributing artists , included in its “Lottery for the Arts—Everybody Wins” event to take place on September 11, 2009.  The art is currently on view through September 10.   “It's so exciting to see the depth of the selection of work for this event," said curator Beth Rohlfes, "You really can't lose in this Lottery. There is something here for everyone!"   An army of volunteer artists assisted Rohlfes during installation of the 104 pieces in time for the opening on September 1.   She continued, “Visitors to the gallery are amazed at the quality of work making up the exhibit  and are enjoying  voting for their favorite piece—the largest vote getter will receive the ‘People’s Choice Award’ and a cash prize to be awarded on September 10th . “

  
Who:  Roseville Arts at the Blue Line Gallery
What:  An art lottery – the first of its kind for the Sacramento Region - An exciting evening of food, wine, fine art--everyone goes home with a piece of original art!  In addition, prizes will be raffled off during lottery breaks and a live auction will culminate the evening.

Gayle Rappaport-Weiland will share valuable information and helpful hints with artists interested in learning how to market their work successfully. Poetry About Art: A Young Adults Workshop – Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 9 - 11:30 a.m. $25 member / $35 non-member
Young adults (grades 6-8) will learn about ekphrasis, the writing of poetry about art, in this interactive workshop taught by John Bowman.  Participants will go home with a poem they have written that day. Poetry from the workshop will be displayed at the Blue Line Gallery next to the artwork it is about. Bowman is a published poet, writer and former editor and publisher of the Roseville Press-Tribune.  His gentle and empathic style will inspire participants to reach inside and connect with the poet they always have with them.  Email John at valjohnbow@aol.com
